New York Mountain and Polar Star Inn

Hiked to the Polar Star Inn from the Yeoman Campground trailhead outside of Eagle, CO and then on to the summit of New York Mountain. This was a long hike, 19.4 miles in total and all but maybe a quarter mile in snowshoes.

The route I took, which was longer than it should have been, was 9 miles in to the hut. The hut is in the group of 10th mountain division huts which were used for training by the Army years ago. The Polar Star Inn is now privately owned. Hut reservations can be made at

On the second day, I tackled New York Mountain. Only about 2 miles up from the hut but about 1500 feet in elevation. A bit of a problem with footing once above treeline and a bit exhausting. It took me almost 2 hours to get up and about an hour to get back down to the hut.
