Summit Peak/South San Juans

Thu Aug 30 2018

Summit Peak from the Treasure Creek drainage.

Nate and I stayed in Walsenberg and took off early on Thursday morning to the South San Juan's.

We took 370 south of Alamosa and headed up 34 miles of gravel to the Treasure Creek trailhead.

Once at the trailhead, I couldn't get the map I downloaded to come up so we were a little unsure of which way to go.  The trail was not clearly marked and there was a visible trail going up to the right and also one going down to the left.

We took the trail uphill to the right which turned out to not be the Treasure Creek trail, but actually followed the Treasure Creek.  This way was more direct and took us by a few waterfalls so it ended up being a fine choice.  Once we were above treeline we corrected to get back to Treasure Creek trail and reach the divide.

The views on top were really amazing, this is definitely an area we'd like to get back to.

A view from the summit.
