Great Sand Dunes National Park

In pursuit of Colorado's Wilderness Area High Points, I visited Great Sand Dunes NP to hike to the wilderness area high point. I drove up the Medano Pass road almost 5 miles to the Sand Pit trailhead. The wilderness area highoint is near the boundary of the wilderness area on the side of Mt. Herard. This was a steep off trail climb.
Visited the Great Sand Dunes NP and hiked to the wilderness area high point. Started out the morning in Salida.
Drove up the Medano Creek road about 4 or 5 miles and parked near the Sand Ramp trail. The one creek crossing I had to drive across was pretty low and posed no issue.
The hike up the side of Mt Herard was pretty steep and the footing was not great. I took a slightly different path down, more to the east because it was easier at the top but it got trickier below.
