Clark Peak

Wed Jul 04 2018

On the trail to Clark Peak.

Aaron and I both worked on Monday/Tuesday, so there was a bit of discussion over what to do on July 4th.  Daryn's college friend Tom joined us late Tuesday night.

We knew we wanted to hike but there were a lot of potential choices.

We decided on Clark Peak.  This would get us out to look at Poudre Canyon and Cameron Pass on the way to the trailhead is State Forest State Park near Gould.

We saw a young bull moose on the drive in and parked near the Clark Peak yurt.  The trail started up to Jewel Lake and from there we went open country to the summit.

From the lake, the trail got very steep.  We gained about 1900 ft in elevation over the last mile to the summit.   The views were spectacular and we looped back down to the valley by continuing over the peak and following the far ridge line down.

It poured rain and hailed on us on our return trip through Poudre Canyon.  We stopped for pizza in Fort Collins before returning home.

Clark Peak.
