Aspen/Maroon Bells

Thu Jun 28 2018

At Maroon Lake with the Maroon Bells in the background.

We left Glenwood Springs in the morning and headed toward Aspen.  Our destination was the Maroon Bells area.

Due to the limited parking at the Maroon Bells area, people are shuttled from the Aspen Highlands Ski Resort.  We bought a shuttle/lunch/ski lift package at Aspen Highlands and boarded the shuttle toward the Maroon Bells.

Once dropped off by the shuttle, we hike out past Maroon Lake to Crater Lake.  The weather and views were great.  The hike was about 4 miles round trip.

Once we had finished at the Maroon Bells we boarded the shuttle and went back to Aspen Highlands.  From there we drove over to the Snowmass Ski Resort and took the ski lift up to the restaurant at Elk Camp for lunch.

After lunch we rode the next section of lift to the very top where we got some more distant views of the Maroon Bells.

After we hiked around the top for a bit, we headed back down and to Aspen.  Had a drink at the Aspen Brewery and left town to set up camp at the Difficult Campground.  Keith and I were visited by a fox in camp right before we were headed to bed.  He was very bold and not easily scared off.  We also got to see him (briefly) again the next morning as we pulled out of camp.  Unfortunately, no pics of the fox!

A look at the Maroon Bells from on top of the Snowmass ski resort.
